Description Andrew Gaydenko 2004-09-24 15:50:53 UTC
I think it may be useful for Gentoo to have more words in official doc
concerning configuring of local portage/packages server.

In particular, Gentoo-user mailing list and googling didn't help me to
resolve the problem of "Unsupported scheme" problem: for home LAN I have
added these lines to rsyncd.conf:

[gentoo-packages]
path = /x/portage/distfiles
comment = Anli Linux Packages mirror

Client side get "Unsupported scheme" while fetching (and all works
fine when client sync-ing with the same rsync server).

P.S. Mailing list subject is "home gentoo server/mirror"

Thanks!
Andrew

You shouldn't use RSYNC for distfiles fetching. You can do it, but you need to redefine the FETCHCOMMAND as well to use rsync - it currently uses wget.

RSYNC is best used for the Portage tree only. More information on creating a local rsync mirror is available at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml
