PowerEdge R720xd, BIOS version 2.5.4 (latest as of now) mount install-amd64-minimal-20180227T214504Z.iso using dell's virtual media, set boot to EFI mode in the bios setting. it always ends up with "Boot Failed". even i use Boot menu -> EFI boot menu -> boot from file -> virtual cd -> isolinux -> elilo.efi, it failed too using efi/gentoo/grubx64.efi from my harddisk success which mean the EFI system in this motherboard is good
Interesting. It's likely unrelated but is seems that qemu can't boot gentoo's hybrid ISOs in EFI mode: $ qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -cpu host -cdrom install-amd64-minimal-20180415T214502Z.iso -bios /usr/share/edk2-ovmf/OVMF.fd -m 4G Only BIOS boot works: $ qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -cpu host -cdrom install-amd64-minimal-20180415T214502Z.iso -m 4G
Current minimal installcds are known to not have working EFI support. Catalyst's EFI support has been reworked and we're awaiting a new release to be cut.

I don't. As best as I can tell, the original amd64 EFI support in catalyst was copied over from ia64 and never actually tested or working in real life.

No, but the bug tracking this feature is bug 370331. Ben and Rich have both built some UEFI capable ISOs by now and I hope to have some tomorrow in my build box (https://www.jmbsvicetto.name/releases/auto/amd64/). In the coming days we might be updating the official box to start building UEFI capable ISOs.
This should be working now in install-amd64-minimal-20180823T214504Z.iso (and all future builds), please reopen this bug if you still have problems.
