Description Georg Müller 2004-09-22 04:18:33 UTC
firefox crashes with an X error when opening some websites (e.g. http://finance.yahoo.com )
When I start sim icq the whole X server crashes and restarts.

I am using nvidia driver and a fresh xorg-x11-6.8.0-r1

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. open firefox and enter finance.yahoo.com
2. start sim and open contact window

Can you reproduce this with the "nv" driver? Also, if you're using the binary nvidia drivers, which version? Please attach your xorg.conf.

xorg.conf

With nv the problem disappears. But this is no long time solution because I
need opengl.

I am using the latest nvidia driver - media-video/nvidia-kernel-1.0.6111-r1

On my Athlon64 I do not have these problems.

One other thing to mention is, that I switched from gcc 3.3.x to gcc 3.4.x.
(and I recompiled kernel + nvidia-kernel)
I don't know, if this could cause some problems.
Comment 3 Donnie Berkholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-09-24 08:46:35 UTC
Try changing this to False:
    Option	"Composite" "True"
Comment 4 Dick Marinus 2004-10-21 03:21:50 UTC
same problem for me, is there a bug which I can track about this?
Comment 5 Jeremy Huddleston (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-04-27 16:12:08 UTC
Can you please try nvidia-glx-1.0.7174-r3 and report whether or not the problem still exists
Comment 6 Georg Müller 2005-05-18 16:46:50 UTC
I have no more problems with Option	"Composite" "False"
Comment 7 Kris Kersey (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-07 07:46:45 UTC
Has this problem been fixed with the latest nvidia drivers or is the "composite"
setting a suitable fix?
Comment 8 Kris Kersey (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-20 11:16:35 UTC
No response, so we'll assume this bug is taken care of. If not, please reopen.
Please check the latest NVIDIA driver first though.
Comment 9 Dick Marinus 2005-07-20 11:28:11 UTC
as far as I know this is still a (known) problem. nvidia has some information about it, no other fix than
disabling the composite feature
Comment 10 Kris Kersey (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-07-20 11:32:21 UTC
Since there is a "fix" for it and since it is a driver problem and not a Gentoo
problem, I think we should leave it closed.
