Description ivo welch 2004-09-21 20:36:48 UTC
hi chaps: I do not know how to create ebuilds, or I would give it a shot---but the claim from the john coffman is that this latest version now does compile under amd64. if this is so, it would be nice to use make it available.

the portage tree only has 22.5.9-r2, which did not yet compile.

regards,

/iaw
Comment 1 Travis Tilley (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-09-22 00:04:07 UTC
Version 22.6 is a minor update to version 22.5.9

o Add keyword "unattended" for noisy serial line boot consoles.
o Provide for compilation on 64-bit Linux (IA-64).
o Remove NASM dependency for compilation.
o  Allow "root=" to use "LABEL=name" syntax.
o Add local image descriptor keyword "addappend=".
o Provide for servers with more than 16 hard disks.

it says ia64 which isnt anything similar to x86-64... so unless you try it yourself and can confirm it works, i'm closing this bug as invalid
Comment 2 ivo welch 2004-09-22 07:56:46 UTC
mea culpa. I got too excited when I saw "64" in the list of CPUs... ;-)

may I ask a brief question, though? it appears that there is no as86 on amd64 (I looked through the portage tree)---which is what stops lilo from compiling. is this correct?

also, john coffman tells me that the ordinary x86 version will work on amd64. can we offer a lilo.static in addition to grub.static?

regards,

/iaw

Hi Travis,
you are looking vor something like this:

viper@mars ~ $ ls -l /sbin/lilo
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root root 185048 25. Nov 23:40 /sbin/lilo
viper@mars ~ $ file /sbin/lilo
/sbin/lilo: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.6.0, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), stripped
viper@mars ~ $ ldd /sbin/lilo
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0x0000002a9566c000)
        /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 => /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 (0x0000002a95556000)
