In kopete 0.9.0, (installed with kde 3.3.0), despite that kopete shows me as away on my computer, I am told by others that I do not appear as away on their machines. So far, I only have evidence that this problem is happening under the AIM protocol. I will test other protocols to see if the problem is global in kopete. I've also filed this as a discussion on forums.gentoo.org to get the broadest readership. See the above URL, or the one posted here: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=1565196#1565196 Thanks for your help. Kris Kerwin kkerwin@ins__REMOVE_ME__ightbb.com Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Login to AIM on kopete. 2. Set self as 'away' Actual Results: Locally, self appears as 'away'. Remotely, self appears as active. Expected Results: Self should appear as 'away' both locally and remotely. bash-2.05b# emerge info Portage 2.0.50-r11 (default-x86-2004.2, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.3.20040420-r1, 2.6.8-gentoo-r3) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.8-gentoo-r3 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r4 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=pentium4 -O3 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/env /usr/kde/3.3/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/ /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -mcpu=i686 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="rsync://gentoo.seren.com/gentoo ftp://ftp.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu/pub/gentoo http://mirror.datapipe.net/gentoo http://gentoo.eliteitminds.com" MAKEOPTS="-j3" PKGDIR="/usr/target/ports/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/usr/target/ports/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/target/ports" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/target/ports/overlay" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X aalib acpi adns aim apm arts audiofile avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bonobo cdr crypt cscope cups dga directfb divx4linux doc dvb dvd dvdr encode esd ethereal fam fbcon flac flash foomaticdb gdbm ggi gif gpm gtkgtk2 gtkhtml guile heimdal icq imlib jabber jack java jikes joystick jpeg kde libg++ libwww mad mikmod motif mpeg msn ncurses nls offensive oggvorbis opengl oscar oss pam pcmcia pda pdflib perl png pnp python qt quicktime quotes readline ruby samba scanner sdl slang speex spell sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd tetex tiff truetype unicode usb videos wmf x86 xml xml2 xmms xprint xv yahoo zlib"
If you find it to indeed be a problem you should file it at bugs.kde.org.
strangely, it seems it _was_ a kopete bug: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50672
Well, it appears that the above bug on bugs.kde.org was filed almost two years ago, and the fix for it was in CVS about 3 months later. Any chance of getting this little hiccup patched? Thanks again! Kris Kerwin kkerwin@insi__REMOVE_ME__ghtbb.com
Just send a new bug to bugs.kde.org or ask for that to be reopened. If it was fixed once, it should be not difficult for the kopete devs to fix it again.
Additional comment posted at: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50672 since we believe this is a Kopete problem and not a Gentoo one. Hopefully, the discussion will continue there. I will post any conclusion that we come to on bugs.kde.org so that Gentoo can fix the problem without having to wait for the fix to come down the pipe. Thanks again. closing this one now. about the bug at kde: you may have more luck by posting a new one, if the problem is still happening.
