vlc-3.0.0 fails with an undefined referenc to libebml, with libebml-1.3.5. This looks like you need to rebuild libebml after ABI breakage.

This bug just snuck up on me with =media-video/vlc-3.0.0-r3. Solution was the same, manually run "emerge -1 libebml". I guess there's no need to open a new bug for it...

VLC 3.0.2 was just recently stabilized, and I ran into this issue too (only now). I was able to fix it, but I assume a lot more people will run into it now that VLC 3.x is stable. Maybe a dev-libs/libebml-1.3.5-r1 bump?
Just happens to me with media-video/vlc-3.0.2-r1. Workaround works, but we really need to bump libebml.
