*** Bug 64299 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
i'm pretty sure this is due to some auto* bug. Please test other versions of those packages
An auto bug? No way! I get this error again after a week. Besides there is only one 1.4.2 ebuild in portage - gnome-1.4-r3.ebuild and this one too gnome-panel-1.4.2-r2.ebuild
autotools mr. not 'auto bug' whatever that means to you.
Downgrading automake, autoconf is a bad idea (for me). Upgrading to latest stable ones didn't help.
Besides there are only 1 automake and 1 autoconf ebuilds in portage...
This still happens. Any hints? automake-1.5: configure.in: installing `./depcomp' /usr/share/automake-1.5/am/depend2.am: AMDEP does not appear in AM_CONDITIONAL /usr/share/automake-1.5/am/depend2.am: AMDEP does not appear in AM_CONDITIONAL /usr/share/automake-1.5/am/depend2.am: AMDEP does not appear in AM_CONDITIONAL /usr/share/automake-1.5/am/lang-compile.am: AMDEP does not appear in AM_CONDITIONAL 63: bad macro name `-ourdir' [...] make[2]: Entering directory `/var/tmp/portage/gnome-core-1.4.2-r1/work/gnome-core-1.4.2/gsm' Makefile:468: *** missing separator. I suggest developers to discard gnome-1.4 ebuild from portage tree :) as there are no fixes still.
i clearly indicated what would be the likely problem, i have no time to investigate & can't reproduce in the first place. I suggest someone who is actually running into this problem should go with the hint i've given and come up with some solution, this is still a comunity distro.. not a helpdesk.
Althought this is not a helpdesk, even with leeloo root # automake --version automake (GNU automake) 1.6.3 leeloo root # autoconf --version autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.59 it does not work: sgmldocs.make:63: bad macro name `-ourdir' Also, with this make.conf: CFLAGS="-march=i586 -m3dnow -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i586-pc-linux-gnu" CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}" MAKEOPTS="-j4" PORTAGE_NICENESS=20 GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo" USE="-oss -f77 3dnow X Xaw3d acl acpi adns afs aim alsa apache2 apm arts audiofile avi bash-completion bcmath berkdb bonobo bzlib calendar caps cdbcdr cpdflib crypt cscope ctype cups curl curlwrappers dba dbm dbx dga dio directfb divx4linux doc dvb dvd dvdr emacs emacs-w3 encode ethereal evo exif fam fastcgi fbcon fdftk fftw flac flash flatfile foomaticdb ftp gb gd gdbm ggi gif ginacgmp gnome gnustep gnutls gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile iconv icqimagemagick imap imlib inifile innodb jabber jack java jpeg junit kde ladcca lcms ldap libedit libwww mad maildir mbox mcal memlimit mhash mikmod milter mime ming mmap mmx mng mnogosearch motif mozilla mpeg msn mysql mysqli nas ncurses netcdf nis nls nptl nocardbus offensive ofx oggvorbis openal opengl oscar ovrimos pam pcntl pcre pda pdflib perl php plotutils png posix postgres ppds python qdbm qt quicktime readline recode ruby samba sasl scanner sdl session shared sharedmem simplexml slang slp sndfile snmp soap sockets speex spell spl sqlite sse ssl svg svga sysvipc szip tcltk tcpd tetex theora tidy tiff tokenizer truetype unicode usb videos wddx wmf wxwindows xface xine xinerama xml xml2 xmlrpc xmms xosd xpm xsl xv xvid yahoo yaz zlib" I was even unable to go from stage 1 to stage 2. ugh, I had to install a bunch of deps, but this might be a solution. Can anybody with the problem edit the ebuild and replace the automake line with this: WANT_AUTOMAKE=1.4 automake --add-missing || die
Joe, I tried the automake suggestion and gnome-panel merged successfully. (yea!) BTW, I had this problem too. Now I'll move on to the next merge failure on the road to gtm. Thanks

AH. For gnome-pim I was able to create a workaround by diabling the pda USE flag. The automake fix has been committed now. Nice work Joe :) André: gnome-network's dependencies are right, at least for the version we have in our tree, but it's unmaintained.
