Description Christian Plessl 2002-08-14 03:57:45 UTC
It would be nice, if the helper applications for mozilla (an other browsers)
would be updated, when applications are installed.

For instance it would be nice, if after the installation of 'gv' postscript
files were associated with gv in mozilla. Or if mp3 files or shoutcast audio
streams would be assigned to xmms after xmms is installed.

Possible solution: Maybe the ebuild for the applications that are typically used
as external helper applications by mozilla/konqueror ... could add the
corresponding entries to the configuration files for mozilla.

I rather think that this would be a user preference. Some people may wish to
have mpg123 or mpg321 (depending on your political leanings, I suppose) be the
mp3 player that the browser calls.

Ok, so if i have avifile AND mplayer installed .. which should it update to ?

Gentoo is for the guy who wants flexiblity, and not "spoon feeding". At least
that is why I put all my free time into it ?

I admit, that it is a problem to find the right settings for any user.

I did not suggest to to a hardcoding of these settings. I was just trying to
start a discussion of whether one could think of an elegant way to solve this
problem.

As there was no proposal how to handle this issue I will close this bug.
