It looks like you have the 17.1 profile selected. This profile is NOT intended for general usage. Did you follow the instructions in the news item? https://www.gentoo.org/support/news-items/2017-12-26-experimental-amd64-17-1-profiles.html
damn, I've changed blindly from an outdated profile to the latest one. My fault... thank you Mike for your help!

I suspect you could get things working again by restoring the /lib and /usr/lib symlinks, but that's just a guess. If you need further help, I suggest dropping by #gentoo on the Freenode IRC network.
