After installing nvidia as documented on the help page I keep encountering the same error. I even upgraded the drivers with the ~arch ones since this was suggested in several posts on the fora (198 hits on RGB GLX problems) but this did not solve it. Is this still an issue with the latest drivers? If so, please provide version of the drivers and of xorg-x11.
Reporter emailed me privately, said he no longer used this video card or Gentoo. To anyone able to reproduce this problem, please reopen. My guess is that it's because the glx interface changed incompatibly with xorg 6.8 and nvidia took a while to release drivers that addressed that issue.
I am having this problem at present, with xorg 6.8.2-r2 and nvidia-glx 1.6.6629-r6. I have followed the directions in the docs.
