Description Alexey Parshin 2004-09-14 20:39:49 UTC
Alsa driver (in kernels 2.6.7, 2.6.8) snd-cs4232 doesn't work. It can't find the device in my Thinkpad even using all the correct irq/port/dma settings. However, OSS driver cs4232 works more or less. Any of these modules for some reason can't be loaded as the part of kernel autoload. I can only load them from my own startup script at the end of the boot process.
The special Thinkpad module (thinkpad) is loaded.

walker ~ # modprobe snd-cs4232 port=0x530 irq=5 dma1=0 dma2=1
FATAL: Error inserting snd_cs4232 (/lib/modules/2.6.8-gentoo-r3/kernel/sound/isa/cs423x/snd-cs4232.ko): No such device

After that, at the end of dmesg I can find:
CS4232 soundcard not found or device busy

walker ~ # emerge info

Comment 2 Jeremy Huddleston (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-09-15 10:58:42 UTC
Does media-sound/alsa-driver-1.0.6a work for you?
Comment 3 Alexey Parshin 2004-09-15 11:32:19 UTC
Negative. I've emerged it, but had no such luck to make it work.
Comment 4 Jeremy Huddleston (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-09-15 13:18:16 UTC
so then has any version ever worked for you?
Comment 5 Jeremy Huddleston (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-09-22 02:48:18 UTC
ping. Have you ever had any version of the alsa driver working?
Comment 6 Alexey Parshin 2004-09-22 07:31:23 UTC
On my desktop machines, yes. On my Thinkpad, no.
Comment 7 Jeremy Huddleston (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-09-22 23:22:30 UTC
then I think you should talk with the devs upstream as this is not a gentoo specific problem... it's probably a configuration problem that I'm not aware of with your card... you can check the card database upstream as well.
