Description Lorne Cammack 2004-09-13 07:19:22 UTC
I have received this error twice in installing Gentoo. I tried with the athlon xp version and the 686 version. This error shows up both times. Trying to install the kernel (step 7.b) I type emerge gentoo-sources and I get this error:
!!!Invalid Token (not"=")

I have received this error twice in installing Gentoo. I tried with the athlon xp version and the 686 version. This error shows up both times. Trying to install the kernel (step 7.b) I type emerge gentoo-sources and I get this error:
!!!Invalid Token (not"=") Ñ
!!!Parse Error: Invalid Token (not "="): /etc/make.conf: line 6
!!!Incorrect multiline literals can cause this. Do not use them.

I tried doing the stage 3 install, I am a novice so this error makes no since to me. I tried the emerge sync once also and the same thing happened. I think there is a problem with emerge. Any help?

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install
2.type emerge gentoo-sources
3.

Actual Results:
!!!Invalid Token (not"=") Ñ
!!!Parse Error: Invalid Token (not "="): /etc/make.conf: line 6
!!!Incorrect multiline literals can cause this. Do not use them.

Expected Results:
installed? put the kernel in place to run the system.

I have an AMD Athlon processor, 512 mb ram, installing gentoo on a 20 gb hdd, i
have an 80 gb that has win xp on it. My network connection was found inculding
my dsl, my sound, mouse, both cd rw and dvd drives set up. Everything else
went smoothly.

What is on line 6 of your make.conf? That line is invalid.

REOPEN when you have more information. It appears that something is wrong in your make.conf file.
