The gift-0.11.7 ebuild does not install libgiftproto.so. When run, giftd produces this error message: giftd: error while loading shared libraries: libgiftproto.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Furthermore, the gift protocol plugins are unable to build without this file. It appears that people who successfully use this ebuild may actually be using a libgiftproto.so left behind by another build, as mentioned in this forum post: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=215296 During the build process, some unusual messages are produced by libtool: libtool: install: warning: remember to run `libtool --finish /usr/lib' libtool: install: warning: relinking `libgiftproto.la' /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.4/../../../../i686-pc-linux-gnu/bin/ld: cannot find -lgift collect2: ld returned 1 exit status libtool: install: error: relink `libgiftproto.la' with the above command before installing it libtool: install: warning: remember to run `libtool --finish /usr/lib' libtool: install: warning: `../lib/libgift.la' has not been installed in `/usr/lib' libtool: install: warning: `../plugin/libgiftproto.la' has not been installed in `/usr/lib' libtool: install: warning: `/var/tmp/portage/gift-0.11.7/work/gift-0.11.7/lib/libgift.la' has not been installed in `/usr/lib'

masked in portage as many users are complaining on IRC. Anyone found a fix for this yet?
Yes. For some reason, re-emerging gift solved the problem.
could everyone please try gift-0.11.7-r1 now in portage?
0.11.7-r1 still does not install libgiftproto on the first emerge, but does on a reemerge.

Comment on attachment 43165 [details] This file contains the files required for the plugins to build I've extracted a few files from a debian package and from an rpm and putted them together into this tarball. Make sure to unpack it in /. Try emerging the plugin again, and it should work.
does the same thing happen in 0.11.8?
Assuming this bug is resolved in recent versions; 0.11.7 removed from portage in favor of 0.11.8*. Please test.
