Description Vaclav Slavik 2004-09-12 03:38:18 UTC
New version of poEdit was released. It fixes several serious bugs in 1.3.0, so it would be nice to get 1.3.0 off Portageb before too many people use it. Renaming the ebuild to poedit-1.3.1.ebuild is enough.

Package maintainers are generally on the upstream announce lists (or check the website), so are already aware of new releases.

poedit 1.3.1 was only released today - please do not file version bump requests for _at least_ a week after the upstream release.

Thanks for confirming that the existing ebuild can simply be renamed.

It certainly didn't look like that in the past, e.g. when poedit stayed at 1.2.3 for ages when 1.2.5 was already available...

How am I supposed to know that you don't want to hear about releases for a week? If there are some guidelines for maintainers on when they are allowed to help with packaging and when they are not, you should at least make them easy to find. Being consistent wouldn't hurt either: when I reported 1.3.0 release in bug #63038, nobody complained how do I dare to submit it on the day of release.

FYI, this is a high-priority release -- poedit-1.3.0 (which is already in Portage) is too broken. I tried to minimize the damage caused to Gentoo users by alerting you to the situation. Thanks for letting me know that I shouldn't have done it, I'll keep it in mind.

Hello,

The current stable poedit 1.2.3 in portage segmentation faults immediately after the first pop-up informing that poedit is run for the first time is closed by clicking the OK button. Is it possible to upgrade to the latest poedit as there is usually no point in reporting problems on older releases?

Many thanks.

When Gentoo maintainers already know about the new release, why isn't there an updated package in the tree? It's almost a month since the release.
1.3.0, which is in portage has quite a big number of problems.

This was added to CVS on Oct 21. Closing.
