the emerge of xorg-x11-6.8.0 went smoothly. after let's say 5-10 minutes of being in screensaver-mode, the screen locks, the image gets distorted [this occurs when i move the mouse/press a key, right when the password prompt should appear] also, xorg-x11-6.8.0 seems to crash out of nothing in particular [same lock, same distortion], no notable cpu/memory activity. tried to run both fluxbox & xfce4 on it, same crashes. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. xlockmode / x screensaver for about 5-10 minutes seems to have done the trick here. Actual Results: screen lock / image distortion / total system crash [no response to keyboard/ mouse] krimminal@murderINC krimminal $ emerge info Portage 2.0.50-r11 (default-x86-2004.2, gcc-3.4.1, glibc-2.3.3.20040420-r1, 2.6. 8.1-mm1) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.8.1-mm1 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 1700+ Gentoo Base System version 1.4.16 Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r4 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -mmmx -msse -m3dnow" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.2 /share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -mmmx -msse -m3dnow" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.iasi.roedu.net/mirrors/gentoo.org http://gentoo.orego nstate.edu http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X apm avi berkdb bitmap-fonts crypt cups encode esd foomaticdb gdbm gif gno me gpm gtk gtk2 imlib jpeg kde libg++ libwww mad mikmod mmx motif mpeg ncurses n ls oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python qt quicktime readline sdl sla ng spell sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd truetype x86 xml2 xmms xprint xv zlib"
Does not sound like a xscreensaver issue if you are having random crashes within xorg-x11 as well.
can't reproduce this. could you attach your xorg.conf please?
does the new version of xlockmore (5.17) by chance fix this problem?
Closing this until Muntean responds with the required information.
