This looks a lot like that gcc bug (which is supposedly fixed) and has essentially the same failure without LTO (except without the temp/cc8lOxz0.ltrans28.ltrans.o reference). Forcing the Qt arm cpu features to neon doesn't change anything either, but everything else up to qtgui builds fine (and it all builds fine on x86). Same problem on a Raspberry Pi 3B (armv7-a). If it may help, no compilation failure is encountered when qtbase is cross-compiled from git sources on an x86_64 host (using -device linux-rasp-pi3-vc4-g++ as ./configure option)...
Turns out native arm with "normal" cflags is too confusing for qt configure; it's literally failing its own simd (neon) test and fails to configure the neon cpu feature, thus the linker fail. A small mkspecs patch works to force neon on and completes the build, but I'm not sure what the proper way is wrt to the eclass. Feel free to improve it ;)

I don't know a lot about neon unfortunately. Is this condition true? #if defined(__ARM_NEON) || defined(__ARM_NEON__) Any idea where/how these get defined?
This is a "simple" case of CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS/CXX/etc... not being respected during configure. (In reply to Michael Palimaka (kensington) from comment #5) > I don't know a lot about neon unfortunately. > > Is this condition true? > #if defined(__ARM_NEON) || defined(__ARM_NEON__) > > Any idea where/how these get defined? The compiler/preprocessor automatically defines those depending on the -mfpu option.
Those configure tests are pretty opaque regardless, and I don't have the time or desire to be the qt guy... Anyway, no amount of typical flag fiddling seems to work here, so it really needs the patch or an eclass hack of some sort.
