Solaris install CDs comprise of five slices s0,s1, ..., s5. In order to make Gentoo a Jumpstart server for Solaris files need to be copied from slices s0 and s1. UFS File System support and Sun Sparc partition support is compiled into the kernel (2.4.26 / gentoo-sources). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download Solaris 9 Sparc CD 1 and 2 ISOs 2. Mount ISO 1 on loopback device 3. Look for directory Solaris_9/Tools/Boot Actual Results: Directory not found. Expected Results: Slices should appear similar to on Solaris, e.g. /mnt/cdrom/s0 /mnt/cdrom/s1 ... This has been discussed on the Kernel email lists and appears to be defiency of the cdrom driver to check partitions. http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0209.1/0985.html
Created attachment 39359 [details] Script workaround Script automates procedure recommended by Sun to access the first two slices from the ISO image and mounts to /tmp/suncd/s{0,1}
Hm - well this seems to be an upstream kernel bug rather than something Gentoo specific so could you please file an upstream bug at http://bugme.osdl.org so the upstream kernel developers can examine this? Thanks!
