After upgrade to portage-2.0.50-r11, emerge -[p]u world markedly slower than on previous releases. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge -pu world 2. 3. Actual Results: very slow returning results from pretend. Also slow when doing the actual emerge. On previous releases, doing emerge -u world after an emerge -pu world resulted in an almost instantaneous start of the first emerge. I will repeat this in a day or two. Expected Results: as above. emerge info Portage 2.0.50-r11 (default-x86-2004.0, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.4.20040808-r0, 2.6.8-gentoo-r3) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.8-gentoo-r3 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz Gentoo Base System version 1.5.3 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] Autoconf: sys-devel/autoconf-2.59-r4 Automake: sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CFLAGS="-Os -pipe -march=pentium4 -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" COMPILER="" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3.2/share/config /usr/kde/3.3/share/config:/usr/kde/3.3/env:/usr/kde/3.3/shutdown /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/mozilla/defaults/pref /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-Os -pipe -march=pentium4 -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoaddcvs ccache sandbox" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://gentoo.ccccom.com http://mirror.datapipe.net/gentoo http://gentoo.osuosl.org/ ftp://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/pub/linux/gentoo http://mirror.datapipe.net/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/portage_overlay" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X acpi alsa apache2 apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr crypt cups dba dvdr encode esd foomaticdb gd gdbm gif gnome gpm gtk gtk2 guile imlib innodb java jpeg kde libg++ libwww mad mikmod mmx motif mozilla mpeg mysql ncurses nls nptl oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png postgres ppds python qt quicktime readline samba scanner sdl session simplexml slang soap sockets spell sqlite sse ssl svga tcltk tcpd tiff truetype usb x86 xml2 xmms xprint xsl xv zlib"
As of this morning the speed of emerge -u world has returned to normal. No changes to portage, but several emerge sync's have been run, and a few additional packages have been emerged.. This is a complete mystery
After updates, the cache is invalidated. emerge metadata or emerge sync.
