when I try to start xorg, I get a black screen, then, if I press a key, i get the blue screen with the message box "x server can't start ... do you want to see the logs ...blah blah". I tried with vesa, it works (but not with 1600x1200 res.), now I'm using the closed sources 'nvidia' driver which works too, but this one is really unstable on my PC (get freezes really often) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. start xorg with 'nv' as video driver 2. 3. Actual Results: black screen Expected Results: to work look at the url for the xorg log ! and there is my xorg.conf : http://mastermac.free.fr/xorg.conf Note: In this xorg.conf the 'nvidia' driver is enabled (because I'm using nvidia actually); when I get the black screen, the only difference in xorg.conf is that 'nvidia' (and all the nvidia options) is commented and 'nv' not ! Thanks.

did you do: opengl-update xorg-x11?
yes I did !
hey ! any idea ?
Here's a guess. I think the vesa and nvidia drivers might ignore modelines. Try starting in a lower resolution - if the modeline is wrong, it will be black. Also, it looks like either the log is cut short or something. Whats the output of startx? It should say why it won't start up. Usually the problem is not being able to open the mouse (nvidia's drivers add their own input devices too, which is weird). Maybe it won't open the mouse with nv? Sounds unlikely, but I have a GeForce4 here w/synaptics and it works fine (with both nv and nvidia drivers, not tried fb, vga or vesa). OpenGL works great too. Also, if you are using 2.6 and you seem to be, you might want to set the touchpad to /dev/input/event0 (or event1, check /proc/bus/input/device). Then set it to SendCoreEvents in your ServerLayout and set your external USB mice to CorePointer. This can be done because /dev/input/mice will never fail to open. Some touchpads support pressure sensitivity, which I suppose is only useful for Gimp and I'm not sure if using gimp with a pressure sensitive finger is useful.
Ok, I'll try that. But I think it's strange, because all worked fine with the previous versions ! (6.7.99.903,...)

I don't have this problem anymore with the 6.8.0-r1 version ! weird !
