Description Chris Saunders 2004-09-09 18:14:06 UTC
Was running ebuild previous to this version with no difficulties. emerge'd the 0.1_pre20040906 version, wlan/ath_pci/ath_hal load fine, but dhcpcd causes an oops when I attempt to run the net.ath0 (symlink to net.eth0, wireless config in net) and start the interface.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.modprobe wlan
2.modprobe ath_pci and/or ath_hal
3./etc/init.d/net.ath0 start

before emerging the new madwifi-driver package, i emerged the splashutils -
wireless still functional, but once I emerge'd the new version, all heck broke
loose.

other network problems showed up - after dhcpcd "oops"es, strange network issues
appear - browsing problems, etc.
Comment 1 Thomas Margraf 2004-09-12 14:22:40 UTC
i came across a similar issue. apparently, 2.6.8.x kernels break the madwifi driver. http://www.mattfoster.clara.co.uk/madwifi-3.htm mentions this (3.9, right at the bottom) and links to a patch.

horton, solar: what is the status of this bug report?
Comment 4 Bob Ketterhagen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-12-29 07:35:35 UTC
I am not sure. I have not experienced this one myself. Also you should modprobe ath_pci first. I will look into it later today.
Comment 5 Stefan Schweizer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-01-20 13:03:15 UTC
Oopses normally get fixed pretty fast, this should be fixed in the latest ebuild could you please try to upgrade your kernel and madwifi-driver and reopen if it still does not work?
