Description rjgleits 2017-10-12 09:47:37 UTC
plug-ins such as adobe-flash don't work. The following error is thrown when navigating to sites that have flash content:

/usr/lib64/firefox/plugin-container: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib64/firefox/libxul.so: undefined symbol:
gdk_screen_get_monitor_workarea
[Parent 11319] WARNING: pipe error (112): Connection reset by peer: file
/var/tmp/portage/www-client/firefox-56.0/work/firefox-56.0/ipc/chromium/src/chrome/common/ipc_channel_posix.cc,
line 353

This bug was reported in Fedora under the following Fedora bug number:

Bug 1497932 - Plug-Ins for example flash fails because of unresolved symbols.

The resolution was a patch to firefox, contained in 56.0.4.

Best Wishes,

Bob Gleitsmann

I verified that the patch included in the fedora bug report solves the problem

Is this bug regarding www-client/firefox-56.0 or www-client/firefox-bin-56.0 ?
Or both?

We are just a week or so away from firefox57 release, it has been fixed there already. I will leave this open but we will not roll a new patchset or include the patch in gentoo's firefox-56.0 build.

The problematic version www-client/firefox-56.* is no longer in the tree.
I suggest to close here.
Comment 6 Ian Stakenvicius (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2018-07-16 13:58:30 UTC
Agreed. Any issues with flash going forward should be a new bug.
