The BNR2 MsgList database is really unstable. In 0.14.2, I've experienced a corruption that causes posts to show up into the incorrect groups, "updated" groups showing lots of grayed out posts and similar oddities. Workaround: rm ~/BNR2/MsgLst.bnr Solution: none at the moment. It's no use to mask this particular BNR2 version, since in previous versions the problem was already present, but instead of showing corrupted groups it simply made BNR2 crash. And I wouldn't say it's "more unstable" than before, either.
Have you reported that problem to the upstream maintainer?
I've taken a look at the BNR2 forum and it appears that it's well-known-for-years and never-been-fixed bug.
