Description Daryl Stimm 2002-08-11 01:37:15 UTC
Hey all, I just wanted to let you know that the binaries on dri.sf.net for DRI
do not work with the -AC kernels, it gives me a huge error. Vanilla kernels
work fine. Is there anyway to fix this?

thanks!

You'll probably want to build the dri source from scratch. Perhaps it is time
for an offering of an ebuild for the dri cvs so that we can build a dri-CVS
enabled xfree. I'm afraid that making an XFree ebuild is beyond my scope, so I
hope one of the maintainers might considier this(?). Why should you do it?
Well the dri CVS has support for more of the newer video cards like the Radeon
8500, etc. The cards are not supported for DRI in the vanilla XFree ebuild. I
would suggest merging in the dri tree with the main XFree build to make a
XFree-DRI ebuild. That way, those of us with new graphics cards, can be just as
happy as those with older ones.

I would rather like to add support for each card via a patch .. much easier
to keep up to date. This is mostly how it is currently being done. But
I guess the alternative should be considered.

It might help giving more information about the error, what kernel-parameters
are you using, when does this error occur, etc. Just I get an error isn't very
insightful.

well I dont have the error on hand because the only way the error occurs is at
the final step of the ./install.sh script, and every time I run it it hoses X
and I have to reinstall.

so Sorry No errors..

What videocard do you have, have you contacted the DRI-devs, searched on
google, searched on forums, posted on forums,
tried ./install.sh >/tmp/result.txt and checked the results. I don't want to be
disrespectful but the change a bugreport like this will get resolved is
minimal. I suggest you do a little research and post more information or else
nobody is able to help you.

John Herdy.
Comment 6 Daryl Stimm 2002-08-13 18:41:29 UTC
Yes, I have contacted #dri on irc.opn.net they told me to use a vanilla kernel.
They say they dont support our AC kernel. The Binary CVS DRI drivers work fine
with the vanilla kernel but not with the Gentoo Kernel. thats why I submited
this bug report, maybe you guys can work on a DRI ebuild or something..

I have a i810 video card.

Dont the Gentoo kernel with out xfree-4.2.0-r12 work fine with i810 and
DRI without patches/whatnot from dir.sf.net ? We do have a i810 patch
in xfree for DRI issues ...
Comment 8 Martin Schlemmer (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-11-04 08:19:32 UTC
DRI works fine for me on test box. If the DRI devs do not want to resolve
issues with -ac kernel and DRI, then unless you can find a DRI/kernel hacker
that are willing to resolve the issue, I do not see much hope. This is anyhow
a non Gentoo specific issue if you ask me.
