Description Kyle O'Donnell 2004-09-07 10:54:12 UTC
I load up gaim, icq/aim/yahoo connects fine and runs. I run msn (by itself or with other protocols) and it crashes. I tried removing my blist.xml same problem.

I followed the steps on the gaim gdb site and have provided the files on the website address listed above.

gaim.log = gaim -d
gaim.trace = strace -o gaim.trace gaim
gaim.gdb = steps on the gaim site. the last backtrace is that with the MALLOC set to 2.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.open gaim connect to msn
2.
3.

Actual Results:
seg fault

Please attach backtraces and debug output as separate text files. It makes it easier our staff and then tracks those files for historical purposes and I know the files will always be here.

Is gaim-1.0.0 providing the same results? Are you using the HTTP method to connect?
Comment 6 Alan Schmitt 2004-09-21 07:08:43 UTC
I'm having this problem with gaim-1.0.0.

I tried setting the "http" option, and it now connects without crashing.

On an unrelated note, I can also make it crash by choosing "preferences, plugins" then clicking on the side bar (elevator) to see the other plugins that are further down (but this is probably a gcc 3.4 / gtk+ issue).
Comment 7 Kyle O'Donnell 2004-09-21 08:54:04 UTC
i was not using HTTP to connect.

I havent had the problem yet with 1.0.0 (compiled with gcc 3.4 instead of 3.3 too)

Comment 8 Kyle O'Donnell 2004-09-21 14:09:29 UTC
it startwed crashing again today.... i think it might be a user on my msn list which comes online and kills gaim.
Comment 9 David Raison 2004-10-01 10:28:10 UTC
I'm having/had? the same problem. Gaim crashes on loading MSN.

However my debug told me something about a problem with an offline message and switching to ICMB or similar, so I guess it's not the MSN but the Oscar module that's causing the problem.

So I tried to redirect gaim's output to a file, e.g. 'gaim > gaim.log' and this time there was this message popping up:

"You have been connecting and disconnecting too frequently. Wait ten Minutes and try again. If you continue to try, you will need to wait longer"

Now it's but this message popping up and MSN loading fine.
I'll wait for 40 min now and try again. If I'll be able to get a debug message about that offline message error, I'lL attach it to the file list.

gaim debug output

This is the gaim debug where something about an oscar offline message is
mentioned and the client crashes.

Sorry, just found out, my problem has not been msn related.
Comment 12 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-18 11:40:39 UTC
Kyle do you think you might be having this problem:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=235&atid=100235&func=detail&aid=1025405

If so, there was a fix committed to CVS that I could patch in.
Comment 13 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-20 14:04:59 UTC
Does this still happen with gaim-1.0.2?
Comment 14 Alan Schmitt 2004-10-21 00:19:07 UTC
It still does for me.
Comment 15 Eric Radman 2004-10-29 15:10:27 UTC
I was having a diffictulty with GAIM segfaulting until I recompiled dev-libs/nss and then x11-plugins/gaim-encryption. For me it didn't matter what version of GAIM I installed, but nss-3.9.2 caused issues. Still don't know why.
Comment 16 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-10-29 20:12:46 UTC
Eric your problem was caused by the dev-libs/nss maintainer changing the install location for those libs and not telling me. I don't think that would cause a crash, just not allow you to log in. More than likely not related to this issue.
Comment 17 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-12-06 08:51:00 UTC
Can you people duplicate crashing with gaim-1.1.0?
Comment 18 Don Seiler (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-12-13 12:37:34 UTC
Waiting to hear back from you. Marking TEST-REQUEST until you test with 1.1.0.
