That's about it... /usr/portage is there, I ran /usr/portage/scripts/bootstrap-macos.sh and it was successful, but emerge is not present on my system. I'm using the gentoo-macos-20040726.dmg disk image for my installation. I'm also pretty sure this bug doesn't quite belong in the "gentoo linux" section, but I did not see a gentoo macos section. Is gentoo-mac a hosted project? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.open gentoo-macos-20040726.dmg 2.Install using gentoo-macos.pkg 3.type emerge into a terminal and get command not found Actual Results: nothing, really. Emerge does not appear to be on my disk. Expected Results: I would expect the installer to put emerge on my disk, so I can do the emerge sync step.
Ok, I found emerge; it's in /usr/lib/portage/bin/ . I think maybe the page at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/macos-guide.xml just needs updating, or a symlink from the default path (/usr/bin maybe?) should be made to emerge. Also, the link from /etc/make.profile to /usr/portage/profiles/[whatever] is made by the installer automagically. I'm not marking this as resolved yet, since the install instructions don't actually work, but things are now working for me.
So, the installer page does have the emerge command not found as an issue, and it says how to fix it. I just didn't notice it on my first read-through. Sorry...
Closing out bugs that've been resolved for a while now...
