1.4.4 seems not affected, so its just a matter of appropriately nuking old versions.

okay i've removed the entire 1.4.3 release, including xapian-1.4.3, xapian-bindings-1.4.3 and xapian-omega-1.4.3.  none of these were scheduled for stabilization since 1.4.4 supersedes them.
