I realize this is nitpicking, but the laptop has no network (but will have network in a few days) and so I thought I could get started even without it, because I knew about the package CD, and also that the handbook instructions say you can install without a network (if you are crazy enough to desire such a thing). - Handbook says you can choose gentoo-dev-sources, but the livecd is missing ucl-1.02.tar. - Genkernel cannot be installed, because libmng-1.0.5.tar is missing. (Probably could install it without deps, but I didn't want to try, and is a newb going to want to, either? It should work right off the cd without tweaking... - Genkernel also is missing bootsplash-kernel-0.6.1-r4.tar.bz2 - ssmtp_2.60.9.tar is missing, also. (Can't find the package that depends on it, but it complains when it isn't there). (Maybe metalog?) Total size of missing files is 1.3MB, so I imagine they can fit. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Get universal livecd, disconnect network. 2. Try to make it through the handbook using gentoo-dev-sources and genkernel. 3. Watch for complaints about the missing packages... Actual Results: Complaints about missing packages, unable to make it through handbook. Expected Results: Have the missing packages. (OR, if it is possible to do the above with a --nodeps install of the package, mention it in the installation instructions for those without the blessing of a network during install).
I probably should have commented on this earlier (like way earlier) but this is in my set of checks for the next LiveCD release...
Well... these are all fixed in 2004.3
