This bug is not specific for gnome-shell-3.24.3. I had this problem almost one year. I posted already https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=594764.

I have the following DRM_AMD kernel options:

root@condor:/usr/src(75)# zgrep DRM_AMD /proc/config.gz
CONFIG_DRM_AMDGPU=m
# CONFIG_DRM_AMDGPU_SI is not set
# CONFIG_DRM_AMDGPU_CIK is not set
# CONFIG_DRM_AMDGPU_USERPTR is not set
# CONFIG_DRM_AMDGPU_GART_DEBUGFS is not set
CONFIG_DRM_AMD_ACP=y

Should I change something?
Comment 5 Juergen Rose 2017-09-06 18:07:28 UTC
It also crashes with xfwm4 instead of gnome:

As you are getting this crashes on radeonsi driver in so many apps (even this could be a dupe of bug 617852), I think this should be checked by mesa maintainers first, as it doesn't look gnome specific for now :/

Please post "emerge --info mesa" output and also try to get a newer backtrace than the one from https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=617852#c1

your GPU is GCN1/SI, so it won't use ADMGPU kernel module unless you set CONFIG_DRM_AMDGPU_SI. That said, using radeon.ko is OK for your GPU if you built it.

This shows that you're using software accelerated OpenGL.
Perhaps there is something wrong with your mesa setup.

Let's figure this out first.
