ftp.planetmirror.com is usually "out of date" and tries to sell you a membership when you land on it for rsync from "emerge sync". They point you to their "archive" as the way to go -- incompatible with emerge. In other words, they seem to be greedy marketing dweebs without an understanding of the Gentoo way, and need to be banned from the rsync pool. Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge sync once a day, and watch which site you are connected to when it fails. 2. 3. Actual Results: They tried to sell me stuff, and failed because they were out of date. Expected Results: emerge should not have had ftp.planetmirror.com in the rotation.
uh...ok -- before we just flippantly ban them from the pool, maybe we should first see if they can fix it so they're no longer behind. What rsync rotation are you using? It's not rsync.gentoo.org.
Mirror looks up to date for me. I dont see any "pay for" messages when I connect via FTP. Reopen if you see any performance-related issues in the future. Thanks, Jeffrey
