Description Karl Hakimian 2017-09-02 12:45:30 UTC
As of version 1.7.2 (maybe the previous one as well) I'm often getting a timeout when I'm composing an email. When I finish, my inbox closes and I loose any flags etc. that I have not previously used the sync command send to the server.

Steps to repeat

While in inbox, either r to reply or m to start an email message. Take more than a few seconds (possibly a minute or more) to create the email. Exit the editor and your inbox will be closed with an error.

This is happening on all machines where the newer version of mutt was installed.

Thank you for your report. To me it sounds like
a bug in the software provided upstream or a misconfiguration in your system [3].
Does the same source work for you on another distribution?
If it works on other distributions, but not on Gentoo Linux, I suggest to discuss this problem
on a related mailing list, forum or IRC channel. I have had very good experience on the
Gentoo IRC [1], of course there are also forums and mailing lists. [2]

I will close this bug here, because I do not see a relation to the gentoo ebuild or the way
Gentoo handles this special software package. Please provide more information, if I am wrong.

You are likely right about it being an upstream bug. I have yet to find forums/bug tracker for mutt, everything I've run across has been many years old. Any pointers would be helpful.

Try the IRC channel first. Write a complete question with all informations and prepare to wait a few hours.

There are also the mailing lists
http://www.mutt.org/mail-lists.html

Good luck.

Thanks. That's a big help.

I'd strongly suggest to try the lastest ebuild available in Gentoo first. There is a chance your bug has been fixed already. 1.9.0 is being worked on, and that version has changes in this area, so trying that first is a good idea anyway.
