Description Stefan Kiesler 2017-08-30 21:46:42 UTC
I don't know which update caused this, but my current install of Android Studio is unusable. After startup, the event log shows the following alert:

FileNotFoundException: Entry fileTemplates//code/Google Test Fixture SetUp Method.cc.ft not found in /opt/android-studio/lib/idea.jar

Googling suggests that the cause is an attempt to install 64 bit Android Studio on a 32 bit system, which makes no sense as my Gentoo is amd64.

When starting Android Studio from a shell, countless exceptions fly by:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: Entry fileTemplates//j2ee/Remote_Interface.aidl.ft not found in /opt/android-studio/plugins/android/lib/resources_en.jar
java.io.FileNotFoundException: Entry fileTemplates//j2ee/Remote_Interface.aidl.html not found in /opt/android-studio/plugins/android/lib/resources_en.jar
java.io.FileNotFoundException: Entry fileTemplates//j2ee/Service.java.ft not found in /opt/android-studio/plugins/android/lib/resources_en.jar
...and many many more.

Within Android Studio, I cannot even create a Java class. I get the following error message:

Unable to parse template "Class"
Error message: This template did not produce a Java class or an interface

When trying to add a layout resource, Android Studio creates an empty xml file that the UI editor cannot handle.

I tried current stable and ~amd64 versions without success.

Comment 2 Stefan Kiesler 2017-08-30 22:31:49 UTC
Caused by latest Oracle Java update (oracle-jdk-bin-1.8.0.144), see https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/release_changes.xml

"Bug Fix: java.util.zip.ZipFile.getEntry() now always returns the ZipEntry instance with a / ended entry name for directory entry
java.util.zip.ZipEntry API doc specifies 'A directory entry is defined to be one whose name ends with a /'. However, in previous JDK releases, java.util.zip.ZipFile.getEntry(String entryName) may return a ZipEntry instance with an entry name that does not end with / for an existing zip directory entry when the passed in argument entryName does not end with a / and there is a matching zip directory entry with name entryName + / in the zip file. With this release, the name of the ZipEntry instance returned from java.util.zip.ZipFile.getEntry() always ends with / for any zip directory entry.
To revert to the previous behavior, set the system property jdk.util.zip.ensureTrailingSlash to 'false'."

Should be fixed by adding
"-Djdk.util.zip.ensureTrailingSlash=false"
to /opt/android-studio/bin/studio.vmoptions and /opt/android-studio/bin/studio64.vmoptions.

I added the fix for this in 3.0 thanks :)
I hope eventually it works without the fix but for now its fine.
