Description Ralf Saalmueller 2004-09-05 03:48:15 UTC
Both, 2004.1 and 2004.2 live-cds universal, kde, gnome, are missing kernel drivers for the iMacs G3 400 DV onboard ethernet device eth0: Digital DS21143 Tulip. In both kernels those (tulip) drivers are disabled and only the bmac and gmac drivers are enabled. No network connection over ethernet is possible with an iMac G3 until a new kernel is compiled.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. see /proc/config.gz for "thernet"

2. see lspci on an iMac G3 400 DV
Sokrates:/# lspci
0000:00:0b.0 Host bridge: Apple Computer Inc. UniNorth AGP
0000:00:10.0 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage 128 RL/VR AGP
0001:01:0b.0 Host bridge: Apple Computer Inc. UniNorth PCI
0001:01:12.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments TSB12LV23 IEEE-1394 Controller
0001:01:13.0 Ethernet controller: Digital Equipment Corporation DECchip 21142/43 (rev 41)
0001:01:17.0 ff00: Apple Computer Inc. KeyLargo Mac I/O (rev 02)
0001:01:18.0 USB Controller: Apple Computer Inc. KeyLargo USB
0001:01:19.0 USB Controller: Apple Computer Inc. KeyLargo USB
0002:02:0b.0 Host bridge: Apple Computer Inc. UniNorth Internal PCI

3. see dmesg after booting on an iMac G3 400 DV and look for eth

Actual Results:
No eth0 or eth1 is found and it can't be activatet via modprobe because even the
module isn't there.

Expected Results:
working eth0 with the iMacs built-in Digital Tulip 100MBit/s Ethernet devices.

Please include the Digital Tulip Ethernet driver into the kernel or as module
for the next live-cd.
