Description Patrice Clement (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2017-08-24 08:07:24 UTC
Hi jer

I've just updated vivaldi to the latest version available in Portage, commit e9f44f59884e24b683fb356e32a23ce2efda77d2. With this version, vivaldi cannot start anymore. See the output below:

$ vivaldi
[31777:31807:0824/095540.602013:ERROR:browser_gpu_channel_host_factory.cc(103)] Failed to launch GPU process.
Created new window in existing browser session.

As a workaround, I have downgraded to vivaldi-1.10.867.48_p1 and the browser launches as expected.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge =www-client/vivaldi-1.11.917.43_p1

Existing browser session? Did you check why that's printed?

To be honest, the error is quite cryptic. Nothing happens and vivaldi stops right there. I don't know why it mentions a "GPU process" or an "existing browser session" since there's no existing vivaldi session running when I launch the script.

Since its assessment that there is another session running is likely file based, you might want to run vivaldi with strace to discover what it is.

Seems fine to me. Either you have a process lurking in the background somewhere or there is some lock file hanging around. Try with a fresh config.
