I have checked autoconf and automake and could not reproduce this problem locally :/
Installing dev-cpp/mm-common fixed the build for me. So probably a missing dep somewhere due to eautoreconf I guess.
I have the same problem, and rebuilding mm-common seems to have fixed it.

I confirm the installing of mm-common fixes the issue. Just tested here and working fine.
