Description gentoo@netmalice.com 2017-08-15 23:20:39 UTC
www-apps/nextcloud 12.0.2 has been released, but the latest version in portage is 12.0.0

I'm not sure if it's important, but there are some issues with 12.0.2 release, and they expect 12.0.3 to be released this month. Here's the info from the newsletter:

**Upgrading and when will the updater warn me?**

If you are on Nextcloud 11, the Nextcloud Updater will warn you of
availability of Nextcloud 11.0.4 and should let you upgrade. Nextcloud 12
will become available for users in the Stable channel when we publish
12.0.3. The reason for the delay is that after shortly after the release we
discovered that Nextcloud 12.0.2 has the issue that some of the upgrade
steps take quite long and can, when using the web updater, time out. That
can be solved by using the command line but we don't wish to make it hard
on users who use the web updater. We intend to fix this for 12.0.3, after
which we will enable the updater. We plan 12.0.3 still for this month,
provided no big problems are found.

Of course, if you use the manual upgrade process, you can easily upgrade to
Nextcloud 12 but we strongly recommend to use the command line tool for the
upgrade.

I suspect the issue with the web-updater, although awkward, won't affect the Gentoo ebuild, as it will be installing from scratch. Albeit, anyone using it will suffer the issue once installed, but since the updater cannot notify Portage of the update, I don't think it classes as a blocker for Gentoo per se.

For me the update from 12.0.0 worked fine and in my opinion the user should decide what to update. I assume this contains security fixes so even if the update takes longer it might be a good idea.

Anyway I created a pull request: https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/pull/5472

Thanks for the report and PR (I amended it to mention the version in commit message), I also pushed 11.0 branch update
The timeout issues do not surprise me, even on my small setup I sometimes got timeouts when running the post-update upgrade steps (owncloud I think), even if they are much faster than updating nextcloud/owncloud itself
Anyway 12.0.2 is in tree
