Description Bodnár János Kristof 2004-09-03 06:18:53 UTC
I want to use KDE instead of Gnome, but I got stuck during emerging some components. So I made an emerge sync, emerge -u system, emerge -u world, etc-update, and env-update, and then I tried to make emerge -u kde (because some components I could emerge before), but it always stucks at the first component, the x11-libs/qt-3.3.3. (I wanna upgrade it from qt-3.3.2)

That's it:

local gcc compilation issue
Comment 4 David Fellows 2004-09-05 13:37:52 UTC
I encountered the same error while doing
emerge -uDv world
with use=amd64
Earlier in the emerge gcc and cglibc updated to 3.3.4 from 3.3.3

 gcc --version
gcc (GCC) 3.3.4 20040623 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.4-r1, ssp-3.3.2-2, pie-8.7.6)

I have a minimal installation at present and have not done any compiler tweaking.
I don't think it is a "*local* compilation issue".
Comment 5 David Fellows 2004-09-05 14:06:09 UTC
A further thought: I do not have KDE installed. qt is getting compiled because
GNOME is being upgraded with the following from emerge info:
USE="X alsa amd64 apm arts avi berkdb cdr crypt encode esd foomaticdb gdbm gif gnome gpm gtk gtk2 imlib jpeg kde ldap libg++ libwww mikmod motif mozilla mpeg mysql ncurses nls nogcj oggvorbis opengl oss pam pdflib perl png python qt quicktime readline sdl slang spell ssl tcpd truetype xml2 xmms xv zlib"
Comment 6 Caleb Tennis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-09-09 08:24:56 UTC
you may just be stressing your system - cpu getting too hot or bad memory or something.

> with use=amd64

who told you to add arch flags to USE? `tail -n 20 /usr/portage/profiles/use.desc`
Comment 8 Caleb Tennis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-09-23 19:18:43 UTC
yep, something is definitely wrong locally - either some bad libraries (glibc?) or hardware issues during compile (cpu getting hot? ram??)
