I am following the guide https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Prefix/Cygwin Problem is that from the moment I replace the cygwin1.dll with the patched version from houbi's site as suggested, wget produces no output anymore/probably does not do anything anymore. No error messages or whatever; simply returns immediately. As the bootstrap-prefix script relies on wget... Note that wget works fine (at least does something) when the original cygwin1.dll is in place. The cygwin setup program only allows to select between version 2.8.1-1 and 2.8.2-1 for the cygwin package. Haubi's site only provides patched version up to version 2.8.0. I have rebuild the cygwin package from source myself for version 2.8.0, to perfectly match the version of the patched one. This does not resolve the problem. Note that also wget does not work with that original cygwin1.dll version 2.8.0, suggesting that wget relies on diff between 2.8.0 and the current version of the dll, and as such hopefully patching the current version will bring the solution.
Thanks for the report! Started with adding a reference to https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Prefix/Cygwin#Additional_setup for where to find the patches eventually.
Uploaded prebuilt cygwin1.dll binaries with forkables patches for 2.8.1 and 2.8.2.
