BTW ... I have dev-db/postgresql-10_beta2 installed

Successfully set postgresql slot to 10 via eselect and postgresql-config set 10 and still got same error

Comment 4 Cooper 2017-07-23 18:45:15 UTC
Just got bitten by this same bug. Only PostgreSQL 10beta2 on the system as per comment 3.
The culprit is the naive version check on line 282 of the libreoffice ebuild:

https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/tree/app-office/libreoffice/libreoffice-5.3.4.2.ebuild

It drops the dot from the expected version number (9.0 -> 90) to compare with, but the version 10 release of postgres doesn't have a decimal (10 -> 10). Comparing the produced value with 'less than 90'...

You can use the new postgres eclass, using the POSTGRES_COMPAT, POSTGRES_DEP, and postgres_pkg_setup().

I can whip up a patch if you need it.

PS: I'm probably going to modify postgres_pkg_setup to remove the POSTGRES_COMPAT requirement, but that wouldn't affect you.

You could probably just do without at this point since 8.4 was removed a long time ago.
Comment 8 Steve Arnold archtester gentoo-dev 2017-07-25 18:38:27 UTC
Wait, now I'm confused - do without what exactly? I'm still seeing this problem, both postgresql-config and eselect fail with the same errors and can't seem to update/set/unset either version (I have 9.6.3 and 10beta2 installed).

I reinstalled 9.6 which also coughed the same errors a few times but somehow managed to make eselect see 10beta2 as "set", and now postgresql-config appears to work but with errors, and may or may not actually reset anything.

I see a lot of mangled symlinks in /usr/include and also under each postgresql-X directory underneath; removing all the broken symlinks under /usr/include and /usr/lib(64) makes postgresql-config happy and then setting it to 9.6 allows libreoffice to merge. Still needs a fix for the version compare...

I meant, do without the check entirely, as there is only a minimum requirement that at least 8.4 be installed, preferably 9.0.

8.4 was removed more than a year ago. 8.3 even further back than that. It is certain that at this point, all users should have at least the minimum running on their system.
Comment 10 Steve Arnold archtester gentoo-dev 2017-07-25 21:48:27 UTC
Okay, that makes more sense, since the check is indeed superfluous. Not sure how the config syminks got so mangled, but this is a fairly old install (so it did at one time have much older versions of pgsql/config tools). The update I'm doing now was half-done at one point, and this time restarted with over 1000 packages. Finally down to 20 or so left in @preserved-rebuild...
Comment 11 Cooper 2017-08-01 18:55:53 UTC
So... um... Any thoughts on when I can hope to see a fix appear?
Comment 12 Juergen Rose 2017-08-05 15:53:33 UTC
I have the same issue. postgresql-9.5.7-r1 and postgresql-10_beta2 is installed.
postgresql-10 is eselected. 'emerge -v1 libreoffice' complaines about:
...
 * Checking for at least 22 GiB disk space at "/var/tmp/portage/app-office/libreoffice-5.3.4.2/temp" ... [ ok ]
