sinc the update from gaim-0.81 to >=0.82 gaim displays error messages, when a buddy tries to send an instant message including special chars like German ä,ö,ü,ß the Euro sign or similar. Messages exclusively including ASCII chars get displayed. Sending special chars work. Tested only with AIM/ICQ, don't know about other protocols Since all data gets lost if people send me such messages i consider this bug to be 'critical'. A downgrade is inacceptable since earlier versions have security bugs. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emerge >=gaim-0.82.1 2. ask buddy to send special char message Actual Results: Example conversation: (18:26:26) Me: please send some message including 'ä' (18:26:40) Buddy: (There was an error receiving this message) Expected Results: (18:26:26) Me: please send some message including 'ä' (18:26:40) Buddy: Ok I send you äverythin' you want. Protocol Encoding: ISO-8859-1 gtk+ version: 2.4.4 $ emerge info Portage 2.0.50-r10 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.3.4, glibc-2.3.3.20040420-r1, 2.6.8-gentoo-r3) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.8-gentoo-r3 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.5.3
Hmm, I tried with icq and jabber protocol and it works as expected. Try setting protocol encoding to ISO-8859-15. In there are the umlauts defined. Strangely enough it's set to ISO-8859-1 and yet it still works. Maybe it depends on the client of your buddy?
The gaim team knows about it. The bug appears to be in all the other icq-clients, not in gaim. If you send
The gaim team knows about it. The bug appears to be in all the other icq-clients, not in gaim. If you send åäö from gaim or the "official " icq clients to gaim the åäö works. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=235&atid=100235&func=detail&aid=1017857
Yes this is known and is upstream.
