Description Torsten Alex 2017-07-06 23:57:40 UTC
Hi guys,

just recently I ran into this bug leading to a reoccurring lock up in xl2tpd <= 1.3.6

https://github.com/xelerance/xl2tpd/issues/55

and noticed the package had no maintainer. The bug has been fixed quite a while ago in version 1.3.7, the latest stable version in Gentoo is 1.3.1-r4 (unstable is 1.3.6). I created an ebuild for version 1.3.9 and tested it, xl2tpd has been running stable since. I am in charge for several installations running xl2tpd in combination with strongswan for IPSEC/L2TP VPN services and could maintain the package.

Torsten, that are good news.
In order to ensure a good start, I suggest, that you get in contact with the proxy maintainer team.

Is https://github.com/xelerance/ your account? You can prepare your overlay there and we help you with the first PR to the gentoo tree.
If you are fine with IRC, I suggest to have a look at #gentoo-dev-help and #gentoo and #gentoo-proxy-maint

Here are a few needful links for the meantime:

Hi Jonas,

that is not my account. Xelerance is the company currently in charge of xl2tpd development. The link was merely used to reveal details on the bug.
IRC is fine. I will read up on your links, prepare my stuff and get in contact within the next days. Looking forward.

We no longer use these bugs. See:

https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Proxy_Maintainers/User_Guide#Taking_over_an_existing_package

i.e. basically we'll add you as soon as you submit some meaningful change to the package (bugfix, bump, etc.)

Thank you for the information. My ebuild has in between been reviewed by some community members and should be ready to go. I had still been waiting for the outcome of my request about the future of the dnsretry patch and just noticed the uncommented feature tag added 9 days ago by xl2tpd upstream:

<https://github.com/xelerance/xl2tpd/issues/134>

Will submit my pull request very soon.
