As reported in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=814317, compiling a LaTeX document that includes package algorithm2e gives the following warning: (\end occurred inside a group at level 1) ### simple group (level 1) entered at line 1061 ({) ### bottom level This is caused by a mismatched brace in line 1061 of algorithm2e.sty. See https://listes.lirmm.fr/sympa/arc/algorithm2e-discussion/2015-12/msg00000.html for the upstream report (the corresponding link in the Debian bug is dead) and fix, namely to remove the brace before \setboolean.
this is very old, I can not believe that it is not fixed in the latest texlive. Can you please add the exact version number of the gentoo package and double check the upstream package? If our texlive-2017 still has the bug, but upstream fixed it, we just need a bump. Please attach also a minimal working example for verification. Thank you.

Both app-text/texlive and dev-texlive/texlive-mathscience are version 2017. It seems that the algorithm2e version in the tree is 5.1, which is also the latest in ctan. If you can replicate the bug, then I could ping the upstream mailing list.

Looks like you are getting the warning too, lines 101--104 of test.log.
I suggest you to discuss this on tex.sx and upstream, to get the best possible support and report your results here. We will see then, if we can fix anything.
Upstream fixed this in version 5.2 so all that is needed now is a bump.
Just confirming that this is fixed in texlive-2019.
