Description Tomáš Mózes 2017-06-19 12:45:07 UTC
Updated a few machines today and found lots of segfaults on them:

[Mon Jun 19 05:42:15.041170 2017] [core:notice] [pid 31306] AH00052: child pid 31315 exit signal Segmentation fault (11)

Using net-libs/nghttp2-1.23.1 with http2.0 mostly. After reverting to 2.4.25 the segfaults are gone. Anybody having the same experience?

Just to note, this happens with PHP apps mostly (some Ruby too).

Hmm, I'm not seeing segfaults, but my WordPress PHP app (mod_proxy_fcgi + PHP-FPM) also started showing randomly weird broken behavior, specifically in a variety `/wp-admin/` requests.

Reverting to 2.4.25 instantly makes things work again.

Changelog shows some mod_proxy behavior was changed, probably have to investigate.

Also not sure we're looking at the same bug here, but since you also mentioned PHP apps..

Seems like this only happens with Apache 2.4.26 with prefork npm and http2. The segfaults are gone after setting H2MaxWorkers 1. Can you confirm Leho?
Comment 4 Tomáš Mózes 2017-07-06 08:06:32 UTC
Oh, now I see you have php-fpm, so it's strange it happened for you too.
Comment 5 Leho Kraav (:macmaN @lkraav) 2017-07-06 08:10:33 UTC
Tomas, I figured out what my own original problem was - it was the new ProxyFCGIBackendType statement.

See details at https://bz.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=51517#c23

But, I also did notice recently that `systemctl reload apache2` operation now segfaults instead of completing normally.

I'm an active user of mod_h2, I have a feeling it might be involved here, but can't be certain just yet.

So you hit a different bug ;)
Comment 7 Tomáš Mózes 2017-07-10 06:46:11 UTC
From now on, prefork and http2 will not work:
