for unpriviliged containers to work an up2date sys-apps/shadow is needed: subuid/subgid stuff does work with sys-apps/shadow-4.4-r2 but not with sys-apps/shadow-4.1.5.1-r1 (not sure which version is minimum, but it took me a while to figure out what the problem was)
Now that there isn't any package with a lower version than sys-apps/shadow-4.4-r2, couldn't we say that this patch isn't necessary now?
well it wouldn't be there anymore on any up2date system yes -- i just had some old (not really up2date) boxes where I ran into this when I just was trying to test it. I leave it to your judgement if this is something you want to add or not. Probably not needed, since up2date system packages should be something we should be able to assume are (more or less) there ;)
Closing without action since a system would now have to be pretty out-of-date to be affected.
