Thanks for reporting this issue!

Upstream is currently experiencing a bit of infighting on this topic... building with USE="-vdpau" will be broken until they agree to fix this. You can checkout https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/12102 if you want to follow along.

I'll be watching upstream and will update this bug when they come to a resolution.

Time for some popcorn - thank you for the link. ^^

Any news on this one?
Comment 7 Craig Andrews gentoo-dev 2017-07-27 17:51:43 UTC
I just tried again.

First, I tried with USE="vdpau" and that emerged fine.

Second, I unemerged x11-libs/libvdpau then USE="-vdpau" emerge kodi, and that also emerged fine.

So this issue has been fixed upstream.

If you disagree, please reopen this issue and tell me how to reproduce the problem.

Thanks!

Did you have USE=vaapi set in any of the two scenarios?

Yes...

I tried to follow your steps - note that I don't use vdpau thus I didn't set it in `make.conf` or `package.use`:

# Take 1:
1. USE=vdpau emerge kodi
    + pulls in `x11-libs/libvdpau`
    + sets `USE=vdpau media-video/ffmpeg`

Result: `media-tv/kodi` installed successfully.

# Take 2:
1. emerge -C x11-libs/libvdpau
+ Note that `media-video/ffmpeg` still uses `USE=vdpau` at this point
2. emerge kodi

Result: `media-tv/kodi` not installed.
Relevant error message: ERROR: vdpau requested, but not all dependencies are satisfied: vdpau_vdpau_h vdpau_vdpau_x11_h

Kodi master is a moving target - it looks like they're working on this failure, here's the PR: https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/12576
