Description Matt Whitlock 2017-05-26 13:59:31 UTC
Please add "winPreVista" to IUSE_VMWARE_GUEST in the app-emulation/vmware-tools ebuilds. I am not certain when this guest was introduced.
Comment 1 Fabio Rossi 2017-06-25 15:59:32 UTC
now it should be fixed in the overlay
Comment 2 Manfred Knick 2017-07-07 19:28:03 UTC
REFERENCE:

Bug 616958 :  12.5.7 version bump

including  app-emulation/vmware-tools-10.1.6.5214329 .

vmware-tools-10.1.6.5214329.ebuild contains:

     IUSE_VMWARE_GUEST="... windows winPre2k winPreVista"

Thus, to me, this bug seems to be FIXED / OBSOLETE;

BUT:

  "winPre2k winPreVista" refer to versions which are _not_ supported any more

  and - if really used - would induce severe security risks.

On the other hand, they are _still_ supported as possible installations
by VMware Inc. / VNware-Workstation 12.5.7.5813279

   !?

@ Thomas / security@gentoo.org :  Your judgement?
