Description Stefano 2017-05-20 18:36:44 UTC
I am puzzled.

Emerging either of x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-375.66 or x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-381.22 causes the system to hang during the setup phase.

This does not happen with -375.39

No build log and no crash log? What does "hangs system" mean?

> No build log and no crash log? What does "hangs system" mean?

No build log and no crash log because (as I think I wrote) the whole system hangs (completely) while performing the setup phase - even if I do it manually (as in, ebuild setup ...).

If you can please suggest a way to produce a log or to debug what the heck is going on, considering that the system hangs hard and doesn't sync anything to disk nor outputs anything worth it to screen...
Comment 4 Stefano 2017-08-17 10:34:40 UTC
Aaaaand same happens with 384.59-r1.
Comment 5 Stefano 2017-08-17 10:35:18 UTC
aaaand same happens with 384.59-r1 and I still don't have a clue on how to debug or log what's happening.
Comment 6 Stefano 2017-08-17 12:12:45 UTC
New detail: system hang seems to happen only if xdm is running.

I really can't help you with that. I suggest checking for filesystem errors might help, but I can't think how this problem would be inherent in the nvidia-drivers build system or in the eclass.
