I have been asked to provide more details in some of my bug reports. But one of
the problems is: What details are interesting?

It would be helpful if emerge included "the right" details for a bugreport, if
the emerge fails. Things that come to mind are: make.conf, gcc --version

Source Mage makes a bzipped logfile of the compile-log for each package. This is
very useful for backtracking errors and does not take much space. I think the
logfiles are placed in /var/log or /var/cache so it is obvious that these files
may be discarded at will.
