ExifTool is a program and Perl module to read EXIF metadata from a variety of image formats including JPG, TIFF, and NEF.

AFAIK, no other program in Gentoo yet supports reading EXIF from NEF (Nikon RAW files), so that is why I was driven to write this ebuild.

I think this bug can be closes since Image-ExifTool-3.74.ebuild is in portage

improved ebuild for Image-ExifTool

This is a slight improvement over the original ebuild, and provides for the
latest version of this tool, and a more maintainable ebuild.  I have
successfully installed on amd64, and tested against a few Nikon RAW files, and
it has worked very well.

media-libs/exiftool-6.13 (last version upstream) has just been added to the portage tree.
