Description Stephane Loeuillet 2004-08-26 05:21:14 UTC
net-libs/linc is a thing of the past (up to gnome 2.2 age, was merged into orbit since 2.3/2.4). so it should never be a dependency for any gnome 2.4/2.6 only package. but when people upgraded, it kept linking against old linc

net-libs/linc dependancy could be found in those binaries : (which should be recompiled without linc installed to avoid the link, or removed)
app-office/openoffice-ximian-bin-1.1.53.ebuild
mail-client/ximian-connector-1.4.6.0.6.1.ebuild (lacks -bin but use the bin rpm)
net-p2p/azureus-bin-*

but also in quite every net-im/gnomemeeting ebuild (removed in later versions)
and in bonobo-activation-1.0/2.2.* & gnome-lite-2.2.1 (gnome 2.2 elements)

i let you all decide what to do.

(people asking linc to be added to deps list because the bin needs it, other asking for linc to be removed because not needed)

It isn't harmful to have around, ppl just shouldn't need to dep on it anymore in most cases, in theory for binary compatability -as you say- it could still be needed (and some of those bugreports imply that)..

So i'm not sure what you expect us to do with this bug ?
Comment 3 Mike Gardiner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-12-10 08:34:05 UTC
You say yourself, some of the bug reports are requests for it, and some for removing it. We'll close this for now, it doesn't hurt for the binary compat.
