Description peter@prh.myzen.co.uk 2017-05-02 14:16:57 UTC
One of my machines has a no-multilib portage profile. On that machine, sci-misc/boinc-7.6.33-r3 builds and installs happily, but /usr/bin/boincmgr cannot connect to the local client. I can connect to it over the LAN using boincmgr on another machine without difficulty, but not locally on the same machine.

The BOINC client itself seems to run properly; it's just the local boincmgr that doesn't.

Please add a profile check to the ebuild, which should sound a warning that full boincmgr functionality requires a multilib profile.

Reproducible: Always

The problem occurs in the earliest and latest versions in portage: 7.2.44-r3 and 7.6.33-r3.

On the problem machine I've gone back to 7.2.44-r3 to avoid the bloat of needing 40-odd supporting packages, including ruby and webkit-gtk.

Well, 7.2.42 is the official version. The 7.4 and 7.6 series are (although they work just fine) considered some sort of testing.

For the other problem, I'd like to see the output of
  ldd /usr/bin/boincmgr

BOINC should not need multilib. What for anyway?

Sorry for double posting.

I just wanted to ask whether it works when you connect to 127.0.0.1 instead of 'localhost'?
Comment 4 peter@prh.myzen.co.uk 2017-05-16 15:32:56 UTC
Looks like a problem at my end. I ran an emerge -e for other reasons and now boincmgr works fine.

Apologies for the noise.
